Fantastic observation, compellingly argued. Just a few days ago I read a post on LinkedIn bemoaning the lack of a product community – LI itself has devolved to an engagement-cannibalising feed approach, and Twitter/X is a toxic wasteland. Bluesky/Mastodon/Threads are largely under occupied and echo chambery. Reddit kinda gets it but that platform is becoming less usable over time. The overall CTA felt like a plea for group chat but these are hard to find!

Personally I used to love the community approach of Disqus or Quora but there needs to be a way of creating a private enclave for a community to form.

It’s a little staggering to consider how underserved everyone feels at a time when there has never been more social platform choices and they consume so much of our eyeballs. We truly are not the customer for these services.

But would people pay for community?
